Board of Directors

Drawing on many years' experience in mining, the iron and steel industry, exploration, finance, law and corporate communications, Northland's Board provides senior management with essential guidance and counsel.

Anders Hvide Executive ChairmanMr. Hvide has an extensive history in the financial markets. Until recently, he was a Partner and Managing Director of Metals and Mining, as well as Corporate Finance for Pareto Securities AS. Before joining Pareto in 2000, Mr. Hvide was VP of Finance for Crew Development Corp. He has experience from M&A transactions and corporate advisory for many industrial companies. Mr. Hvide holds an MBA from Harvard University's Management School of Business Administration, and was educated at the University of Southern California

Arden (Buck) Morrow DirectorMr. Morrow is a graduate Mining Engineer from the Mackay School of Mines at the University of Nevada, Reno. He has over 30 years' experience in mineral exploration, mine development, and mine operations, in North America, South America, Asia, and Europe. From 1980 to 2001, he was the President of Western States Minerals Corporation which, under his direction, discovered and brought into production some of Nevada's most significant gold deposits including Barrick's Goldstrike mine. From 2001, until he joined Northland, Mr. Morrow worked as a consultant in gold exploration, mine development, and mine financing.

Tuomo Mäkelä DirectorMr. Mäkelä is President of Outokumpu Mining Oy, a Finland-based unit of the Outokumpu Group, an international stainless steel organization with annual sales of over five billion euros. He has over 30 years of experience directing exploration and development operations on steel alloy metals and base and precious metal properties located in Latin America, Canada, Spain and Europe, and also acts as an adviser to a Finnish investment company involved in venture capital financing and private equity finance.

Stuart Pettifor DirectorMr. Pettifor is a past Director and CEO of Corus Steel, and has operated steel mills in the UK, Netherlands, Sweden and USA. In 1994 he became Managing Director Section Plates and Commercial steels, which was British Steel's largest business with a turnover of £5.0-billion. In 2001, Mr. Pettifor was appointed to the Board of Corus Steel with the responsibility of restoring both the Dutch and UK operations to profitability. In 2002 he was appointed acting CEO of Corus Steel. He is now retired and serves as a director of two other companies.

Birger Solberg DirectorMr. Solberg is the Managing Director and CEO of North Cape Minerals, a Norwegian-based leading supplier of industrial minerals for the steel, glass and ceramic industries. He holds an MSc from the Norwegian Institute of Technology and completed the Advanced Management Program at Insead in France. He sits on the Board of a number of European industrial minerals companies and has broad international experience in the extraction, sales and marketing of industrial minerals, particularly some of the key minerals used in the iron and steel industry.
